Holiday Diary - Day 49

Tonight we are settling in at Amesbury Stonehenge and earlier this afternoon we took a walk around Stonehenge. Here are some of the photos we took today.

This is an artists impression of what they think it looked like when it was built
Tomorrow we have a very long drive all the way to Hellingly Eastbourne so don't be too surprised if we don't have any photos.

Holiday Diary - Day 48

Today was a day of relaxing, not trying to drive from one train to another, from one item of interest to another. Today we checked out the local shops to see if we could find a couple of items that we have been looking for. Unfortunately, we didn't find them.

We have found many things in the middle of roundabouts or around them. Today we found a bombed out church in the middle of a roundabout, but didn't get any photos of it. We also found a fairly modern building in the middle of a roundabout.

Tomorrow we leave Plymouth and head east to Stone Henge. Hopefully we will see something photogenic and actually have the camera ready when we do. I'm reasonably confidant that we will be able to get some photos of the Henge for tomorrow's post.

Holiday Diary - Day 47

Today we had planned on going to Launceston to catch a train and then on to Lynton to check out the water powered cliff railway before driving to Lands End. After going on the train in Launceston we decided that it would take too long to see both the cliff railway and Lands End so we decided to just go to Lands End.

Here are some of the Photos we took today.

Crossing the Tamar River into Cornwall

The engine that was doing all the work

The station at the end of the line

Getting ready for the return trip

We didn't actually stop hear, just passed through

Looking into the engine from the carriage

This is where we began our train journey today

We had some great views on the way back

And some long queues

a few bridges to go under or over

and some beside us

and even some churches
Tomorrow we are having a day off, maybe do a bit of shopping in the morning, visit a chiropractor in the afternoon (climbing in and out of baths has caused Sue a few problems) and generally relax, so don't expect any photos.

Holiday Diary - Day 46

As promised, there were a lot of photos taken today, so I have plenty for you to look at.

First off, we drove to Buckfastleigh to catch a train to Totnes and back. Here are some of the photos we took along the way.

After leaving Buckfastleigh we headed for Paignton but we got a little muddled when we changed the destination to the postcode given on the leaflet and ended up head for the other end of the track at Kingswear before changing it back to Paignton. We would have probably been better off sticking with Kingswear as the destination as it tool us an extra half hour to get to where we were going and we ended up on the last return train of the day.

Here are some of the photos we took on this leg of our journey.

The train we planned on catching on the other side of the River Dart

How we got across the river

I tried taking a couple of panoramas while on the moving train. It will be interesting to see if Google's Auto-Awesome will stitch these together. If you want to see any of the panoramas taken so far, just check out the holiday folder I've shared on Google.

Here is the first one.

Here is the second set of panorama shots.

We drove from Paignton to Torquay and got there just in time to ride the Cliff Railway down to the bottom, take a few photos and ride it back to the top.

After that we headed for a laundrette so we could do a bit of washing.

After a very full day we managed to get back to the motel some time after 9pm.

We have quite a bit planned for tomorrow also so I hope to be able to post a lot of photos again.
