FO Friday 24-02-2012
It's Friday once again and time to show off my finished objects for this week. As promised, I have now finished the other 2 towel hangers that I started for last week's FO Friday post and here they are.
There, along with the one I managed to finish last week, will be added to my Madeit store shortly.
I promise that next week's FO will have nothing to do with towels, but I can't promise that there won't be more towels in the near future.

WIP Wednesday 22-02-2012
Someone last week suggested that I must get through a lot of yarn in a week. Well, that may be true, but my stash doesn't seem to be going down at all. Here are all my WIPs for this week.
1. The Daffodil Teacloth - yarn was bought specifically for this so didn't come out of my stash.
The 3rd segment is definitely taking shape but it is still slow progress.
2. Tommy Turtle - yarn was bought especially for this also so no depletion of stash here.
Just have the decrease and the head to go, then I can start of the top half.
3. Dawg - another project that I bought yarn for but may not have enough. I have one ball left and I'm only part way through the second sleeve. I don't think I will have any left to do the hood and the pocket.
The second sleeve is starting to take shape but there is still quite a ways to go.
4. Zoom - I bought enough yarn to make 5 of these so I don't think this counts as stash yarn either.
I managed to add a couple more rows to this today but I'm not getting as much time to work on this as I had hoped.
5. Crochenit Cot Blanket - I started this specifically to use up some of my stash of 4 ply baby yarn.
As you can see, I have had another change of colour, but progress is slow.
6. Men's Afghan Stitch Gloves - definitely stash yarn.
This is for a TCAL with Kim Guzman (CrochetKim Cal on Yahoo). I have about an inch to go before I start doing the fingers.
7. Slanted Scarf - I bought the yarn when I visited Bendigo Woollen Mills about 18 months ago so I counting this as stash yarn even though it never actually made it into the stash.
I added a few rows to this today while waiting for class to start.

Psalm 143
Here are the youversion notes from this morning's sermon.
Psalm 143:1-12 NIV
lord, hear my prayer, listen to my cry for mercy; in your faithfulness and righteousness come to my relief. Do not bring your servant into judgment, for no one living is righteous before you. The enemy pursues me, he crushes me to the ground; he makes me dwell in the darkness like those long dead. So my spirit grows faint within me; my heart within me is dismayed. I remember the days of long ago; I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done. I spread out my hands to you; I thirst for you like a parched land. Answer me quickly, lord; my spirit fails. Do not hide your face from me or I will be like those who go down to the pit. Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Rescue me from my enemies, lord, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground. For your name's sake, lord, preserve my life; in your righteousness, bring me out of trouble. In your unfailing love, silence my enemies; destroy all my foes, for I am your servant.

Too often God is our last resort instead of our first! Why do we wait?
When we pray we need to do so expecting God to answer us! How often do we pray without expecting an answer? How often are we surprised when He does?
We need to hand all things, good and bad, over to a God that is great and expect Him to respond.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Sermon Notes
In this psalm David presents many requests to the Lord, all of which may be summarized in two prayers: “Hear me” (vv. 1-6) and “Answer me” (vv. 7-12). The basis for David’s prayer was the character for God, His faithfulness and righteousness, attributes that are mentioned again in verse 11. God is righteous in all that he does because he is holy, and he is faithful to his covenant and his promises. We plead these attributes when we confess our sins to the Lord and claim his forgiveness. What were the answers for which David was waiting anxiously? Well, I think they are the same answers we want to receive today. We want to see God’s face: David had often heard the priestly benediction declare that God’s face would shine upon His people in gracious blessing, but if God was displeased, he would hide his face from them. We want to hear God’s word: To see his smile and hear his voice gives us the strength we need to overcome the enemy. Another answer we receive from the Lord is a knowledge of the will of God. A knowledge of God’s will gives us confidence in the difficulties of life; it keeps us going when the going gets tough. And finally God answers prayer by helping us bring glory to his great name (vv. 11-12). For thy name’s sake… was the great motivation of David’s life and ministry. Draw close to God; He's all you need!And here are my copious notes.

The Week That Was 18-02-2012
I started college on Monday and am now a full time student. Already this has affected what projects I work on as I can only take a couple of portable projects with me to work on during my lunch hour. The course I'm studying is Certificate III in Information, Digital Media and Technology (Web Technologies) or Cert II Web Development for short.
So far I've learnt a bit about Word (a product that I used a bit while working as a programmer), Adobe Flash (this one is new to me), Adobe Photoshop (I used it a little bit for some odd jobs but I preferred using the Gimp for simple image manipulations), OH&S (part of the hardware side of the course and something that all employed people and their employers should already know about), HTML and social media (I got to set up a new Facebook account for use while at college). It's not all fun and games and I'm kinda dreading the writing reports and documentation side of things as I'm not real good at these things.
Of course, not being able to take my larger or more complex projects with me has meant that progress has slowed considerably on those, but it hasn't stopped, so I should still have a bit to show for WIP Wednesday posts.
Today was market day at Thurgoona and while I did better than the last time I went to this market (two months ago when I didn't get any sales) I didn't do particularly well. I was hoping that I would make enough today to help pay for the petrol to get my next market which is just over an hours drive away, but the $15 (less the $5 stall fee) isn't going to get me that far. The things I sold today don't need to be replaced in a hurry so I don't need to change my to-do list just yet.

Well, in spite of the extra workload of going to college I still managed to get something finished this week, and here it is.
I was trying to get 3 of these done this week but it seems that that was somewhat ambitious. The other 2 are close to being finished so there won't be any prizes for guessing what I will be showing off next Friday.

WIP Wednesday 15-02-2012
Hi all,
I have lots of WIPs to show you today, some haven't seen much progress but others have seen quite a bit. One of the reasons for this is that I started college this week and it has eaten into my crochet time quite a bit. The other reason is that I started some new projects.
After doing all those hanging towels I decided that it was time to make something else so I started a new Turtle.
Of course, having started the, I realised that I wouldn't be able to finish it within a week which meant that I wouldn't have anything for FO Friday, so I started making Rose Towel Hangers instead (more hanging towels!).
This means that I have spent much time on the Daffodil Teacloth.
Or my new gloves that I doing as part of a TCAL with Kim Guzzman (CrochetKim Cal on Yahoo).
I have been taking a couple of projects to college with me so that I have something to do at lunchtime so I have made quite a bit of progress of them. They are the Toddler's Jacket.
And the slanted Scarf.
I also took a few projects with when I went to the markets last Saturday and added a couple of rows to the Crochenit Cot Blanket.
And a few rows to the second sleeve of my hoodie.
I think I'm going to have to take the towel hangers to crochet class this week if I'm going to have any chance of finishing them for Friday afternoon but I will do my best.

Running towards the goal.
The reading this morning came from 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
We had cadets take charge of our meeting this morning and I have been given some of the sermon notes so I will be giving you a mixture of my notes and those of our preacher.
Paul talks of the competitors in the Grecian games and relates their efforts with the race of life. Christians need to be like athletes in this race, training, being motivated, having an aim, self control and be willing to make sacrifices.
We need to be communing with the Lord in prayer, meditating on things worthy of virtue and praise, loving our church family with sincerity and offering diligent, keen service to the Lord and our community.
As it says in Romans 12:11-13 we should not be "... lagging in diligence but be fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality."
Our founder, William Booth, at age 20 wrote on the same topic in his now famous six resolutions.
1. That I will rise every morning sufficiently early to wash, dress, and have a few minutes, not less than five, in private prayer.
2. That I will, as much as possible, avoid all that babbling and idle talk in which I have lately so sinfully indulged.
3. That I will endeavour in my conduct and deportment before the world and my fellow servants especially to conduct myself as a humble, meek, and zealous follower of Christ, and by serious conversation and warning endeavour to lead them to think of their immortal souls.
4. That I will read no less than four chapters in God's word every day.
5. That I will strive to live closer to God and to seek after holiness of heart and leave providential events with God.
6. That I will read over this every day or at least twice a week.
"God help me; enable me to cultivate a spirit of self-denial and to yield myself a prisoner of love to the redeemer of the world."
Conclusion.
Jesus calls us all to new challenges. It is not easy being a Christian - it is to be compared to training for the Olympics. It is not easy at all proclaiming Jesus here and now to people today. It never was. But we have a worthy and wonderful goal, to win an imperishable victor's crown. To live a life that reflects Jesus.
