WIP Wednesday 29.08.2012

Well, it's time to get back into my regular routine again and start showing people what I've been working on during the week. This week is a little different as you will see in the following photos.

I've started unpacking and sorting the yarn stash.

There is still plenty of other unpacking to be done but the chairs a clear enough for us to be able to sit and knit or crochet.

The storeroom needs some work but I've managed to stack it so that I can get to the market stuff relatively easily.

I have managed to do a bit of crochet and knitting this week, although I have yet to find some of my projects. Here is one I could find.

Toddler's Jacket - Zoom by Ellen Gormley
One sleeve is growing and grew a bit more today while at Craft 'n' Cuppa.

Because I couldn't find other projects that I wanted to work on this afternoon I decided to start a new one.

Knitted Child's Beanie
Yes, I got out the pointy sticks and cast on another beanie. Only managed about 4 rows, but it's a start.

Sue has also managed to find one of her projects and has spent a bit of time on it this week.

Crochet Cot Blanket
It's almost finished and quite colourful.

I don't think it's possible to have anything finished for Friday but since I've already broken my run I figured that there isn't much point in trying to have something finished every Friday for a year. Maybe I'll try again in a couple of years. I did manage just over 7 months so I think that's a pretty good run.

If you want to see what everyone else has been making just check out the links in the sidebar.

The Week That Was 25.08.2012

Well, it's the end of an especially busy week. Moving house went smoothly enough, although there is still plenty of work to do. Lots of cleaning up to do at the old place and lots of unpacking to do at the new. I guess it will take a while, especially since neither of us are particularly keen on getting stuck into it. We kinda need time to recover from the move before we summon up the energy to get things sorted out.

I haven't been doing much in the way of crochet this week as things have been a bit all over the place. I don't actually have anywhere to sit and crochet at the moment anyway, but I hope to have something sorted before next weekend.

Tomorrow is the start of a new week and we have plenty to do, and we will probably make an attempt to do it after church. In the meantime, I hope you have all had a good week.

Heroes

I don't have a link to Youversion for this one as we had guest speakers for this morning's meeting so you'll have to put up with my somewhat disjointed notes.

1 Thessalonians 1 (NIV)

1. Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.
2. We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.
3. We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4. For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you,
5. because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.
6. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
7. And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
8. The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it,
9. for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
10. and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

Who were your heroes when you were growing up? (The main one I remember is Superman.)
If you had super powers what would you do to save the world?

God has given us all the power we need! How do we use it? When we have this power and use it for God's purpose great things, supernatural things, can happen.

V8 say that our faith can be known everywhere.
V4 says that God chose us. In the Salvation Army we believe that we have been saved to save!
In Matthew 28:19 Jesus tells us to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" and in verse 20 He continues finishing with  a promise "surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

In Philippians 4:13 Paul says " I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

If we have faith we can do big things for God.

We were also given a prayer to pray every day and here it is.

"Father, In the name of Jesus, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, fill my church with Your Holy Spirit, fill my community with Your Holy Spirit and bring revival to our land. Amen."

I'm going to try to remember to paryer this everyday and see what happens.

May God bless you richly this week.

Richard.

The week that was 18.08.2012

We come to the end of another busy week. A week where I haven't done as much school work as I should. A week where I've managed to finish one of my major projects (check yesterday's post for details). A week where we have picked up the keys to our new abode, and a week where we have done less packing that is needed for the big move which is to take place on Wednesday.

The highlight of this week, though, was today. We spent the whole day at church learning all about discipleship and how we can be better at it. Both Sue and I came up with the same idea for adding a discipleship element to "Craft 'n' Cuppa", and each of us wrote it down before showing the other. It was quite uncanny.

That's pretty much our week in a nutshell.

I hope you all had a good one.

Richard.

FO Friday 17.08.2012

Friday is here again and it's time for another big reveal. Those of you that have been following my WIP Wednesday post will probably already know what it is as it's something I've been working on for quite a while.

Daffodil Teacloth
It currently measures approximately 90cm (3') across but still needs to be washed and blocked so may finish up a little bigger.

Checkout the links in the sidebar if you want to see what everyone else has been making.

I don't expect to have anything finished for next week, and even if I do I doubt if I will have time to take photos as we will be busy packing, moving, unpacking and cleaning.

WIP Wednesday 15.08.2012

Since crochet class started back and I've started going to Craft 'n; Cuppa again I have been able to make good progress on my WIPs. Here are the unfinished objects I've been working on this week.

Charity Blanket
I've managed to finish the next row and start attaching it to the rest of the blanket.

Crochenit Cot Blanket
A few more rows have been added to this one. When I was packing up the stash ready for the move I found a bright red and was wondering if I could incorporate that or if it would look too much out of place.

Toddler's Jacket - Zoom by Ellen Gormley
The body is finished and the edging is almost done. I will be moving on to the arms very soon.

There won't be a WIP Wednesday post from me next week as next Wednesday is moving day and I'm not sure if I'll have an internet connection and I'm very sure that I won't be able to take any photos.

Checkout the links in the sidebar if you won't to see what everyone else has been making this week. I'll be back on Friday to show off this weeks FO. See if you can guess what it is. :)

The week That Was 11.08.2012

Well. we received some good news this week, we were approved for a rental property on the other side of town and signed a lease on it so we will be moving in a couple of weeks. This is especially good since out current lease ran out today.

On the negative side, we have started packing and all my stash has been packed up so I won't be starting any new projects until after we have moved. This means that I won't be able to keep my target of at least one finished item each week for the whole year. I may have something finished for next Friday but I doubt if I'll have anything for the following week, and even if I do I doubt if I will have time to take photos.

Just for something different, we had an Olympics celebration at church this evening, with Olympics style event and all. Teams were picked by pulling jelly beans out of a jug. My team didn't do to well although we did win the Javelin. We came second in most event but last in a couple and ended up equal second. Sue get bragging rights because she was on the winning team.

Anyhow, that's it from me for this week. I hope you all had a good one.

FO Friday 10.08.2012

Another Friday where I forgot to take the photos at the appropriate time, so you get the dodgy flash version with the lounge chair backdrop.

Pink Booties
I couldn't find the ribbon that I know I have in my stash somewhere so I just did a chain and thread that through the loops. I might replace that with a proper ribbon when I find it.

I'm linking up with the usual crew again this week so checkout the links in the sidebar to see what everyone else has been making this week.

WIP Wednesday 08.08.2012

Hi all, time for another round up of my WIPs. With Crochet class starting up again last Friday I've been able to do a bit more this week so here are my WIPs for this week.

Rose Dress Tartan Rug
I've managed to thread a few more chains in this one. I'm now more than halfway through.

Daffodil Teacloth - Segment 5
Just a little bit left to go before I do the border and join this to the other 4 segments. This should be finished in another couple of weeks.

Crochenit Cot Blanket
Plenty to go on this one. Just a couple of rows done this week.

Toddler's Jacket - Zoom by Ellen Gormley
A couple more rows and the edging before I start on the sleeves.

Charity Blanket
One of the ladies at church gave me this a few weeks ago but I've yet to do anything with it. I figured if I showed everybody it might give me the necessary incentive to get it done. Since this was given to me the finished product will be donated to welfare so some poor unfortunate soul can get a bit of warmth.

That's it for me this week. I should be back on Friday with this week's Finished Object. Until then, check out the links in the sidebar to see what everyone else has been making.

The Week That Was 04.08.2012

Well, I'm not sure that anything real exciting has happened in the last two weeks but I'll give you the general run down anyway.

The last couple of weeks of college have been a bit of a problem. I just can't seem to get motivated on some of the work and my computer problems didn't help. I still have a bit of work to do to get my computer back to where I want it, but I'll have it all working soon. Some of my college work is especially difficult for me as it requires writing reports. I've never been good at putting my thoughts in writing, even this blog can be difficult to put together occasionally, so writing reports can be very hard.

Last weekend a large group of men made their way to Collaroy on the northern beaches of Sydney for "Just Men" and I was among them. The Salvation Army holds these conventions every year but I can't seem to afford them all the time so I only get to go occasionally. This year the speaker was a Zulu from South Africa (where else would he be from?). I had a great weekend, learned a few things and even managed some crochet (which got a few comments from the guys there), the result of which can be found in yesterday's post.

This week has been a bit slow. I went to the doctor on Thursday and found out that I have another itis, as if the arthritis, tendonitis, bursitis and spurs wasn't enough. Crochet classes started up again yesterday but, as usual, I was the only one there. It seems that no one wants to learn from me in spite of me offering my services for free.

We still haven't got a place to move to yet. We've put in a few applications nut no joy. We have been told that there is a place we can look at on Tuesday and, if it's suitable, we can have it. It's one of the cheaper places around so we expect to be quite small, but, if we think we can fit into it, we'll take it, at least temporarily. This could mean that we will be moving again in about 6 months.

Well, that's all the rambling your going to get from me this week. I hope you all have had a good one.

Richard.

FO Friday 03.08.2012

This has been quite a busy week but I still managed to get some crafting done. My school work may be slipping and I still have packing to do since we'll be moving shortly (as soon as we find a place to move to), but I'll keep on crafting. I had a look at all the projects that I've managed to finish this year and the count before this week was 34 items (or groups thereof). So, without further ado, here is item number 35 for 2012.

Van Dyke Teapot Cosy with Gold Ribbon
I quite like this design. It's unusual in that you don't put it over the teapot, you insert the teapot into it from the top. If I sell one of these through my online shop I'll need to put in instructions.

Now I need to decide what I'm going to make for next weeks FO Friday. In the meantime, checkout the links in the sidebar to see what everyone else has been making.

WIP Wednesday 01.08.2012

Hello again. I seem to be falling a little behind in my school work but I'm keeping up with my crafting. I know this sounds like I have my priorities wrong but there are just so many distractions at the moment and I'm having difficulties getting my head around some of the work, especially the report writing part.

Anyhow, you didn't come here to listen to me rattling on about school work, you came here to look at the things I've been working on this week. I've worked on 4 items this week and since one of them is finished you get to see the other 3, and here they are.

Toddler's Jacket - Zoom by Ellen Gormley
Just a few more rows on the body then I get to do the edging and arms.

Daffodil Teacloth - 5th segment
The rows are getting shorter but there is still a way to go before I can join this to the other 4 segments.

Crochenit Cot Blanket
A couple more rows have been added to this one. I'm not sure that this green is working for me as it is such a contrast to the other colours that I've used. Maybe I should find some more bright colours to match it.

That's it from me for this week, come back on Friday to see the finished object. In the meantime, check out the links in the sidebar to see what everyone else has been making.

Richard.
