Heroes

I don't have a link to Youversion for this one as we had guest speakers for this morning's meeting so you'll have to put up with my somewhat disjointed notes.

1 Thessalonians 1 (NIV)

1. Paul, Silas and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you.
2. We always thank God for all of you and continually mention you in our prayers.
3. We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
4. For we know, brothers and sisters loved by God, that he has chosen you,
5. because our gospel came to you not simply with words but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and deep conviction. You know how we lived among you for your sake.
6. You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.
7. And so you became a model to all the believers in Macedonia and Achaia.
8. The Lord's message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it,
9. for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God,
10. and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath.

Who were your heroes when you were growing up? (The main one I remember is Superman.)
If you had super powers what would you do to save the world?

God has given us all the power we need! How do we use it? When we have this power and use it for God's purpose great things, supernatural things, can happen.

V8 say that our faith can be known everywhere.
V4 says that God chose us. In the Salvation Army we believe that we have been saved to save!
In Matthew 28:19 Jesus tells us to "go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" and in verse 20 He continues finishing with  a promise "surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

In Philippians 4:13 Paul says " I can do all this through him who gives me strength."

If we have faith we can do big things for God.

We were also given a prayer to pray every day and here it is.

"Father, In the name of Jesus, fill me with Your Holy Spirit, fill my church with Your Holy Spirit, fill my community with Your Holy Spirit and bring revival to our land. Amen."

I'm going to try to remember to paryer this everyday and see what happens.

May God bless you richly this week.

Richard.
