Leviticus 19:32 (MSG)
"Show respect to the aged; honour the presence of an elder; fear your God. I am god.
Servants, respectfully obey your earthly masters but always with an eye
to obeying the real master, Christ. Don't just do what you have to do to
get by, but work heartily, as Christ's servants doing what God wants
you to do. And work with a smile on your face, always keeping in mind
that no matter who happens to be giving the orders, you're really
serving God. Good work will get you good pay from the Master, regardless
of whether you are slave or free.
Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government.
The same goes for you husbands: Be good husbands to your wives. Honour
them, delight in them. As women they lack some of your advantages. But
in the new life of God's grace, you're equals. Treat your wives, then,
as equals so your prayers don't run aground.
Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at
attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master. Be ready to speak up
and tell anyone who asks why you're living the way you are, and always
with the utmost courtesy.
My Copious Notes
When I was growing up I was taught that I should respect all adults, everybody's property and the law. That doesn't seem to happen much these days. A lot of people lie, cheat, steal, damage other peoples property and a whole lot of other things to show they they simply have no respect. When will they ever learn?
May God bless you richly this week.
Richard.
